Transfer Admission Requirements

To apply for transfer admission to UFl Law School, students must have completed at least one full year of study at an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school. It is essential to note that UFl Law School does not accept applications from individuals who have already earned a J.D. degree.

TRANSFER STUDENT APPLICATIONS

UF Law accepts transfer applications from students who have successfully completed the first-year full-time required curriculum, in good standing, at a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. Transfer applications are accepted for fall entry.

Fall 2023 Transfer: Now Accepting Applications

Submission Deadline: Extended to July 15, 2023

The Fall 2023 Transfer application opens May 8, 2023, and must be submitted and completed by July 15 (including the transfer certification form and official up-to-date transcript showing grades for all 1L courses required by the home school). You should receive an email from UF Law within 5 days acknowledging receipt of your application. To check your application status go to Applicant Status Online (ASO). (Important: You will also receive a separate email from the University Admissions Office with instructions to create a MyAdmissions account and complete the Florida Residency Declaration for tuition purposes. Although failing to submit the residency declaration and/or required supporting documentation will not affect admissions decisions, it will affect billed tuition amounts.)

Standard Transfer Procedures

(1) Submit the UF Law LSAC Transfer Application online at www.lsac.org along with a $30 application fee.

Please note that the $30 application fee will be waived only for LSAC fee-waived candidates upon submission of the LSAC online application.

(2) Submit a Personal Statement via the LSAC online application website.

In your personal statement, please explain why you wish to transfer to UF Law and tell us about yourself, focusing primarily on your law school academic experience and goals. The statement should not exceed four double-spaced pages and should be in a font no smaller than 12 pts. (3) Submit a current resume via the LSAC online application website.

Please ensure that your resume contains specific, factual information about your education, awards, extracurricular and community activities, and employment. If you are unable to upload your resume via the LSAC online application web site, please contact us at [email protected].

(4) Submit a Summer Work/Activities and Goals Statement via the LSAC online application website.

Please submit a brief statement sharing your plans for Summer 2023 as well as your career goals post-graduation. Goals should include practice area and desired geographic location. (5) Submit a Transfer Certification Form

Please submit a Transfer Certification Form available on the LSAC online application web site or by clicking here. The form must be completed by your current law school and sent directly to UF Law prior to the file completion deadline by email, fax or mail. To be considered complete, the answer to Questions 1 and 2 must be YES. If your law school provides class ranking at the end of the 1L year, the Form must include the rank; otherwise a comment from the Registrar. Applicants who submit an incomplete Transfer Certification Form will be required to submit a new one once the Form can be completed by their Registrar.

(6) Submit your Transcript

Submitting an official transcript: A copy of your official transcript, showing completion of all 1L curriculum required by your current law school, must be received by UF Law by the completion deadline.

When your application is submitted through LSAC, the Credential Assembly Service (CAS) report is automatically requested. This is necessary for us to receive all required non-law transcripts; for example, any partial undergraduate transcripts, final undergraduate transcript (showing degree conferral), etc., that should already be on file with LSAC from your JD application. Although we will accept your law school transcript (showing all 1L courses/grades) through LSAC, mail, or approved electronic vendor, submission through the LSAC CAS is preferred, though processing could take up to 2 weeks.

If your law school is forwarding an electronic transcript, please note that UF Law only accepts transcripts transmitted via eSCRIPT-SAFE, AVOW (Parchment), or National Student Clearinghouse transcript services. The email address for these services is [email protected].

(7) Optional Letters of Recommendation

Although a letter of recommendation is not required, you are welcome to submit up to four (4) letters of recommendation.
